Anti-ICE Riots Cost Los Angeles Nearly $20 Million

The anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests-turned-riots last week in Los Angeles have cost the city nearly $20 million, with much of that coming from costs associated with the Los Angeles Police Department.

City Manager Matt Szabo told media outlets that the city has racked up $19.7 million in costs related to the riots, a number he said will likely climb.

The LAPD racked up nearly $17 million in extra costs, with more than $11 million of that in overtime. Further, LAPD police cruisers incurred $240,000 worth of damage. The Los Angeles Fire Department’s response to the riots costs $1.2 million, Szabo said.
